(Clockwise from top left) Visualisation of Mineral Animal Vegetable, 2022. Materials shown are Corten (weathering) steel with terrazzo infilled sections. Dimensions are variable dependent on site; visualised here 4-5m at the highest point. Beneath is a variation of Mineral Animal Vegetable visualised at Marsh Way roundabout, with steel painted black and bespoke terrazzo using glass and ceramics from local industries.

In 2022, Karen was invited to propose a permanent artwork for Wakefield city centre, commissioned by Wakefield Council and managed by Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP). This was an invitation-only project for artists selected by curators from YSP and The Hepworth Wakefield Museum, with a substantial budget of over £200,000. The sculptures’ forms are recognisable interpretations of geological maps of Wakefield, particularly the shapes of coal outcrops and stratigraphy showing layers of rocks, minerals and fossils.
